The Lawns Nursery and Forest School
The Lawns is the only Forest School in Biggleswade. We hope that eventually many other schools will also want to achieve Forest School status because of the many benefits gained for the children who experience Forest School activities.
The Lawns is a Sure Start Children’s Centre we work with the five principles of Every Child Matters –
- Be Healthy
- Stay Safe
- Enjoy and Achieve
- Achieve Economic Well-being/li>
- Make a positive contribution

Julie Coles our class teacher who is trained to lead and co-ordinate forest school activities explains how these fit very well with the Forest School Principles –
- Stay safe – assessing risk and how to deal with key risks and securing the environment
- Be healthy – enjoying a healthy outdoor environment, promoting a healthy active life style
- Enjoying and achieve – promoting development and well-being both physical and mental through small achievable tasks
- Make a positive contribution – support with social and emotional development and to respond to challenges and experience success. Taking part in decision-making. Through addressing learning style and schemas and challenge anti-social behaviour
- Achieve economic well-being. Developing an understanding of caring for the environment and sustainability. Being aware of the needs of future generations and economic security for the future
